Stop Being Camera Shy for 2011

Camera Shy Audrey 117 150x150 Stop Being Camera Shy for 2011Let’s face it, not everybody has that natural knack for getting in front of a camera without beginning to turn the color of a raspberry followed closely by seizure-like sputtering. It’s a deer-in-the-headlights syndrome. However, if you own your own small business, you may want to pull yourself together because, for 2011, it looks like video marketing has finally become the norm for…well… just about every body.

At the 2010 Search Engine Strategies Conference & Expo, Greg Jarboe, President and Co-Founder of SEO-PR

At the 2010 Search Engine Strategies Conference & Expo, Greg Jarboe, president and co-founder of SEO-PR revealed the following:

  • Americans watch more videos a month on YouTube than they conduct searches on Google
  • A video is 50 times more likely to get a first-page Google ranking than a text page
  •

Also, Pew Internet Research conducted a study recently showing that 7 in 10 adult Internet users (69%) have used the Internet to watch or download video. That represents 52% of all adults in the United States.

In fact, Americans watch more Internet videos than they do television each day.

Besides just search rankings and blatant statistics, here are some other ways video marketing helps your business connect, grow, and get noticed:

Easy Connection, Easy Production

Why would somebody read through content, when they could just sit back and watch a video instead? It’s the “why read the book, when I can watch the movie” mentality and it’s even more rampant on Internet than anywhere else. People on Internet have ADD to the max. They want what they’re looking for and if they don’t see it within a thirty-second time span they “bounce” from your website, most of the time never to return again.

In order to satisfy that quick dose of information they’re looking for without making them work to hard to read stuff, just make a quick 1 to 2 minute video. Posting regular videos on your blog and social networks (Facebook, Twitter..etc) is a fast and fun way to update your viewers.

Most laptops now come with built in cameras. Chances are your computer already has a webcam. So, just turn it on, hit record, leave a nice, personal, conversational message, and you’re done. It’s like leaving a voicemail, except we can see your face. After that it’s all a matter of uploading it to YouTube and having your social networking link to it.

Analytics

It is incredibly possible to determine Return on Investment (ROI) with television and radio commercials, but it sure does take a long time (and a lot of money). By using tools like TubeMogul you can upload your video ONCE and it automatically uploads to every single popular viral video site on the Internet (yes, there are more than just YouTube). Then, within a day or so, you can start analyzing the results.

With TubeMogul you can actually see how many people are watching your video, where they’re from, what they’re age group is and what they typed in order to read your video. You can see these statistics all across the board and see how one video website compares to the other.

So, this new year, brave through those sweaty palms and hack up those frogs in your throat. Get behind the camera and improve your business’s online presence. Oh, and don’t forget to let us know if you need any help or even if you want us to do it for you (if you’re THAT camera shy).
